Katherine Engelbrecht
Dear Fifth grade families,
Welcome to a new year.  Happy 2016!  The children are really maturing and it won't be long before they are ready to begin their middle school careers.   Yet we teachers still need you help.  Please do the following:

1.  Check your child's homework folder daily.  If you don't see any assignments recorded, ask why!  Children have homework daily.

2.  Look for, review, and sign the signed papers that come home every Tuesday.  (Except the Tuesday before a holiday.)  If you have any concerns about grades, discuss them with your child.  Give me a call or send me an e-mail.

3.  Make sure your child is reading daily.  Each child is responsible for  keeping track of his/her reading log.  Reading logs will be graded each nine weeks.

4.  Please see that your child goes to sleep at a reasonable hour.  Even if your child claims to be unable to sleep, a dark quiet room will usually remedy this.  Children need 8 to 10 full hours of sleep to be able to learn.

Keep in touch and let me know if you have any concerns.  The best way to reach me is through my e-mail.  katherine_engelbrech@charleston.k12.sc.us
